Vocalise Op.34 No. 14 | Ocarina Octet

Program Notes

In the summer of 1912, Rachmaninoff completed the fourteen romances making up his Opus 34.  “Vocalise” is the final of these, written for voice and piano.  It was later expanded into a work for orchestra.  Its calm and expansive melodic lines capture the serenity of Rachmaninoff’s country estate Ivanovka, where it was composed.
